“Health is wealth!” exclaimed my mother frequently when I was a child. “No matter what else you lose, guard your health!” That mantra has been so deeply etched in my consciousness over all these years!
Thanks to it, I’ve striven to pay attention to the path to physical well-being.
Good health, I strongly believe, can be helped greatly by a healthy lifestyle. There are some general principles in this journey. Nature has set it up for us with her own blessings supporting our physiological needs!
Nutrition comes first. A diet abundant in fresh vegetables, fruit, lentils, whole grains, curd, nuts and seeds can do wonders to one’s energy level, assisting the good functioning of one’s internal organs.
For non-vegetarians, lean cuts are best, since fats can clog the arteries and contribute to disease. Rich sweets and creamy foods choices should be kept to a minimum.
Water is another blessing. Hydrating oneself with plenty of water during the day with a gap of a half an hour before and after meals makes sure not to hinder proper absorption of nutrients.
Sleep and a restful one at that is vital for the body to restore itself after a day of mental and physical demands. A good night’s slumber of eight hours is very refreshing and ideal if not shortened or compromised.
Exercise, in the choice of daily walking, dancing or other aerobic activities as well as muscle strengthening work through yoga or gym machines keep the body supple and strong.
Sunlight with all the benefits of its rays nourishes the hair, skin and supports the system in the absorption of calcium.
Fresh air oxygenates us, adding to the fuel we need for healthy functioning.
Finally, nothing like an enjoyable hobby to bring some laughter into one’s life. Tears
are undoubtedly, soulfully beautiful for our creativity, but laughter and joy are reviving!
A rose in bloom will finally wilt and join the earth, but nourishing it prolongs its
youth and glow.
Such, I believe is also the beautiful gift of human life, with a healthy lifestyle that’s worth cherishing
