Fragments of Dream: A Journey of Hope and a Dream Fulfilled

Elderly woman joyfully engaging with her grandchild, displaying bonding and happiness.

“Dreaming is everyone’s birthright.”

A child has his or her own dream, and people of all ages dream in their own way—“I want to be this and that when I grow up.”

Why should I be left out? I also dreamt of being a good human being after seeing so many women and kids not treated well. They never got the love and respect they deserved.

I dreamt one day, when I grow up, I would try to be of help to some people who are going through mental trauma. In our younger years, we can only dream and wait for the perfect time to happen and fulfill your dream.

Hope and faith are the two words to get your dreams fulfilled.

As was the norm of those years, 50 years ago, a girl was married by the age of 22 after the completion of her graduation. Most families had five to six children. Only the father was the earning member.

I was also married at that age, as a good groom was searched by my Mausi Saas. They met me once at a wedding and liked me for their nephew, and so the history goes. Jab jab jo hona hoga, hota hai.

The seeing of the boy and the girl formality was over, and we were tied for life long. One part of my dream—to marry my dream man—was fulfilled.

Within a span of five years, our son and daughter were born. My in-laws were with us. I was busy taking care of them and my children’s education. Many told me to pursue my MA or do B.Ed. I was reluctant, as I was not confident to do it.

But as luck would have it, at the age of 35, I gained confidence when my children were adolescents.

I got an opportunity to complete my B.Ed. in Patna in those years. Before I could complete my course, I was lucky to get a job as a teacher in a reputed school in Patna. Attending the B.Ed. classes and studying at night, attending school, was an enormous task.

We had to send our son to a boarding school for a better future. My father-in-law was very sick.

Well, they say na, “With a family’s support, a woman can achieve and fulfill her dreams.” I was lucky in this, and I managed all my duties well.

The best day in my life was when I looked at the result of B.Ed. and saw my name in the first division. My eyes watered with happiness.

All were happy, and the dream of helping and shaping the young minds of eight-year-old kids was fulfilled by teaching them. I was very happy to listen to their problems and counsel them—and with a smile on their faces.

God is great. He knows when and how much to shower on a person.

Now, at my elderly age of 70 plus, I am one of the Awareness Ambassadors of Autism. I help the group who run the Spectrum Awareness and take active participation in spreading the awareness of Autism.

My dream has been fulfilled by the Lord.

Hope He gives me good health and happiness till my life exists.

I am grateful to the Lord.
