As a child, I never experienced the presence of plants in my home. But as I grew older, I visited my uncle’s house, where I got the chance to witness the beauty of a large garden. I was mesmerized by the vibrant colors of the flowers. My aunt, the caretaker of the plants, nurtured them with love and dedication. I was merely an observer, delicately touching the petals to feel their softness.
During my teenage years, I visited several scenic places. Once, while traveling from Gwalior to Agra, we stopped at Morena Circuit House, which had a magnificent garden. My uncle introduced me to different plant species, and from then on, I made it a point to visit gardens wherever I went. I was enchanted by the gentle breeze carrying the fragrance of flowers, though I never bothered to remember their names.
After marriage, I moved to an industrial town where my husband was posted. To my surprise, the place was adorned with lush greenery—expansive lawns, towering trees, and a garden that surrounded our bungalow. Spring became a season I could truly experience. I watched flowers adapt to shifting seasons, from foggy winters to the scorching heat of May and June. Our gardener, Ramu, worked wonders—multiplying 20 rose plants from just two.
Upon retirement, we settled in our hometown, where we had a small garden. However, our spacious terrace soon became our new sanctuary. One fine day, my daughter began moving a few flower pots to the covered terrace. That simple act sparked something bigger—my husband started multiplying plants through transplantation. Soon, the father-daughter duo transformed our terrace into a flourishing garden with over 300 pots. This passion took root during the COVID-19 lockdown, and today, our terrace feels like a miniature Vrindavan.
As winter gives way to summer, our plants bloom beautifully, symbolizing hope, renewal, and rebirth. Our collection includes Champa, Jasmine, Rose, Hibiscus, Queen of the Night, Petunia, Phlox, Carnation, Pansy, Marigold, Four O’Clock, Periwinkle, Brahma Kamal, Betel leaves, and various types of cacti.
Among them, the Rose is a symbol of transformation, thriving from grafted stems and blossoming as a sign of new beginnings. The Hibiscus, with its many hues, represents rebirth. Jasmine, known for its intoxicating fragrance, is cherished in Maharashtra and South India, often used in gajras that symbolize love and mutual understanding. Champa, in its rainbow shades, stands out as a magical sight in spring—bare branches bursting with blossoms.
Spring is a time of serenity, where nature reveals its artistic mastery. The Golden Marigold glows magnificently, enhancing the charm of our terrace. Gulmohar, in its fiery splendor, paints the surroundings with its panoramic beauty. Bougainvillea, with its vibrant pink and crimson blossoms, drapes trees in elegance. Tesu flowers, specially blooming for Holi, bring festive joy.
Flowers, though ephemeral, leave an everlasting imprint on the soul. They radiate positive energy, marking the arrival of spring with renewed life. The soil smiles as flowers giggle into bloom, filling the air with whispers of joy. Nature’s treasure trove bursts forth in a vivid symphony of colors, reminding us of life’s fleeting beauty.
As spring bids farewell, its melody lingers, echoing in every heartbeat. My terrace blooms like candle flames in the wind, and I embrace the magic of nature—where every flower tells a story of renewal, growth, and the transient dance of time.
