The Lanterns of Faith: Finding Strength and Guidance in Belief

Close-up of a lit oil lamp surrounded by flower petals, creating a warm, festive atmosphere.

“Have faith in the Lord, all will be good.”
“Faith is a great healer.”

Many of us may have heard these words from our elders since childhood. Our grandparents visited temples with their grandchildren and recited shlokas to gain mental peace. Their concentration power increased, and lamps were lit each day in front of the deities, praying for the happiness and prosperity of the family. The next generation followed them and continued this habit. Children watched and learned from their elders.

As life moved to big cities and people became busy with their work, many did not find time to visit a temple. Some felt that there was no need to go to a temple to pray. Instead, many started praying at home. They said, “God is everywhere, watching us—why not pray from home?”

Does God Smile from Above?

Watching the changing mindset of people in praying to Him,
God never gets confused in showering His blessings.
He understands His disciples and acts accordingly.

Each person has to undergo their own life process and face the ups and downs that come across in life. Having faith in the Lord is a must, as He is the Supreme Power who controls our emotions and our lives.

Our elders taught us to pray to the Lord before stepping out for school, office, or signing any deal. We have passed on these simple values to our children, and I hope the future generation continues to follow them.

Carrying the Lantern of Faith

One should have faith—but will faith help you pass your exams without studying hard, or get a promotion without working for it?

If someone is serious and in the ICU, people pray to God and console themselves by saying, “Have faith in God and hope all will be good.” Many visit temples, perform poojas, light lamps, and pray continuously, expecting a miracle for the patient to recover. Faith is indeed a great healer.

Faith in parents, teachers, society, and the country is essential. But one should not have blind faith in anything.

For instance, sometimes a phone call says, “You have won something—please send some amount.” Believing such claims, some send money and get caught in a difficult situation.

Everyone has their own kind of faith. In some communities, people believe in supernatural healing and visit Babas or healers. They perform poojas on children and women to ward off evil elements. They have faith that such rituals will help them.

Having faith is a good habit, but do not stop working toward your goal—keep working on it.

Do not force anyone to light the lantern of faith for the wrong reasons. Believe that God is watching everyone, and He knows what is good for each of us. Everything is decided by God.

These are my views, which I wished to share. I, too, have my own faith.
