There was a time when my family branded me “An Adamant Girl.” For anyone who is very adamant, in Tamil,
there is a saying which goes like this:
“Avan pudicha muyalukku moon kaalu,” which means,
“The rabbit caught by him has three legs.” This shows the person’s height of adamancy.
In my family, whenever there was an argument or decision-making, even before I could start talking, I would receive a quiver of words saying that I would want everyone to accept that the rabbit has three legs. This was even secretly informed to my husband during our wedding!
After about six months of our marriage, I attended an MBA entrance exam. It was their pilot launch of the MBA program, and so the questions were very easy. After finishing the exam, I started discussing the answers with my husband, who was waiting for me to pick up. We both went to a café and started talking about the questions asked.
“Priya, what did you answer for question number 40?” my husband asked.
I immediately peeped into the question paper and read the question:
“How many legs does a rabbit have?”
“Such an easy question, dear. What’s the doubt here? The answer is three,” I happily said.
As I sipped my coffee, I saw my husband laughing uncontrollably.
I had to control him because everyone around was watching us. I felt so embarrassed.
He then asked me to read the question mindfully, and then I realized the blunder that I had made.
On the way home, I shouted at him for laughing out loud.
Poor me lost two marks because of my silly answer.
Though I felt sad, angry, and embarrassed, this situation makes me laugh whenever I think about it!
A rabbit has four legs, not three!
