On Day 6 of our #NineDaysNineMuses Navratri journey, the theme is Empathy. These heartfelt stories and poems reflect compassion, sensitivity, and the power of understanding others without judgment.
1. James and Marilyn
James came home from work. He was quiet, his eyes heavy with something unsaid. Marilyn, his wife, noticed but didn’t press him further. Later, Jesna, his mother, found him sitting alone. Instead of questions, she sat beside him, placing her hand gently on his shoulder. James looked up, surprised.
“You don’t have to talk now,” Jesna said softly. “I just want you to know I feel what you’re feeling.”
“Marilyn, be empathetic,” Mummy shouted at her daughter-in-law, as she felt Marilyn was a cruel wife. But Marilyn knew empathy wasn’t about solving problems, rather about sharing the weight.

2. With Empathy
I speak of pain,
In this vast world of callousness
Where humanity rarely exists
Without being judgmental,
Not so harsh but, with empathy!
There, carrying a soft heart of compassion
Certainly makes an impression.
It settles a peace, feels like bliss,
That soothes the soul
To survive with dignity.
— Pragyan Parimita Nanda
3. Empathy’s Eternal Flame
Empathy hums like Ganga’s stream,
a tender, timeless, flowing dream.
Ma Durga’s eyes, serene, profound,
heal the hearts where sorrows sound.
A mother’s love, a river wide,
nurtures souls with none denied.
Like trees that shade, yet never claim,
their quiet kindness fans the flame.
Shabari’s faith, her fruits of care,
pure devotion offered everywhere.
In Sindhutai, mother of orphans, we see today,
Shabri’s spirit is lighting a gentle way.
She feeds the hungry, heals the pain,
walks through storms, and gives love again.
Nature whispers, “Give, don’t ask,”
empathy crowns life’s endless task.
“Hearts of gold, hands that heal, love flows.”
— Dr. Ritu Kamra Kumar
4. The Vibes of Empathy
Empathy is a rare virtue,
for everyone cannot display it regularly.
The vibes of empathy can be felt only by a few,
yet everyone can try to be sympathetic to the pain of others.
Be sensitive, place yourself in the shoes of others.
Judge them not from your perspective, but theirs.
Thus, you will not be judgmental or unfair.
Share the burden of those in pain,
learn the art of empathy sans refrain.
Ignite the vibes of empathy around you constantly.
Like the power of Mother, you too can be a healer instantly.
— Aditi Lahiry
Each piece reminds us that empathy is not about fixing problems but about feeling with others, sharing their burdens, and offering silent strength.
