Parents heave a sigh of relief. Children are excited. Schools are re opening. But there is some tension too. Will the children get be safe from COVID?
Schools have been closed since two years now. Online classes do not hold the attention of the children. There is nothing as interesting as classroom teaching. Going to school, meeting friends, sharing lunch, playing together is such great fun.
For teachers too, online teaching was a huge pain. They could never be sure that the children are paying attention. They too are excited to wear their sarees which have been resting in the cupboard. They too enjoy having lunch with their friends and colleagues. They too are happy to be back in their routine. The schools are buzzing with noise and excitement.
The security guards at the gate are happy to see the children and the staff. The support staff are happy to be back and clean all the classrooms. The PT teacher is especially thrilled to be back in action and the children love the PT class.
The gardener of the school who was lonely without the buzz of school activities is energized by the admiring words of the staff and students who love the beauty of the plants and trees and flowers of the garden.
The principal is delighted to have her students and staff back. The first assembly after reopening is so joyous. Every classroom, every staffroom and the labs, the principal’s room, seem brighter and more beautiful. Indeed the reopening of schools has been a wonderful experience for all.
All I wish for these kids and their families is long lasting happiness and a normal childhood full of fun and learning.
