Geetanjali Shree becomes the first Indian writer to win the International book prize

Geetanjali Shree, a Hindi novelist has become the first Indian writer to win the International Booker Prize, for her novel, “ Tomb of Sand” originally ‘Ret Samadhi’. 

Her novel Tomb of Sand, a family saga set in the shadow of the partition of India, follows an 80-year-old woman who experiences a deep depression after the death of her husband. Eventually, she overcomes her depression and decides to visit Pakistan to finally confront the past that she left behind during the Partition.

Geetanjali Shree,  hails from Mainpuri, Uttar Pradesh, she is the author of three novels and several story collections, and now the first Hindi novelist to achieve the feat of the International Booker Prize with her novel, ‘Tomb of Sand’ (‘Ret Samadhi’)

With this achievement, the ‘Tomb of Sand’ has become the first book in any Indian language to win the prestigious International Booker Prize.
