Each day when I take my walk, I find myself face-to-face with a flood of myriad shades of colour from flowering trees, in purple, pink, red, violet and so on. Their glow is like a smile, ready to restore my fatigue, sadness or frustration. In their presence, I find that much needed peace. How fascinated I am to see these glorious elegant creations of Nature being some of our best silent healers.
Healing particularly in our time, is a many-faceted word and idea, encompassing physical to emotional and spiritual healing.
It is a powerful concept and a much needed process in an environment causing so much stress. It is a part of our life’s journey of nurturing our bodies and souls.
As far as the physical, we walk, run, dance, lift weights, do endless activities that can cause natural wear and tear to our bodies. It is important to pay attention to any signs of strain or pain and not overdo any of these. Physical activities are good for our bodies, but should also be followed with stretching.
I am personally not a fan of too much jogging or running, because these movements can jolt and hurt our joints. For those who do this, good supportive shoes help greatly. Healing in this case is also paying attention, slowing down and supporting our bodies, with adequate rest and circulation.
Eating a balanced diet full of fresh vegetables, fruit, proteins, wholegrains, seeds and nuts also keep the joints in good shape to heal trauma.
On the emotional and spiritual side, aside from spending as much time as possible amidst Nature, creative activities like painting, poetry, writing, embroidery, sewing or sports, dancing etc can be very restorative. It is best to draw from our own individual talents and express them meaningfully.
Singing and writing poetry has for me personally been a way of reaching into the depths of my heart, where words and music heal me in many difficult moments.
Finally and importantly, healing comes also through our prayer with the eternal creator.
As we pray, a beautiful connection with our creator brings us the balance and calm that we seek in our life’s ongoing journey of healing.
