I am a mother to twin boys. I was always told by many of my friends and acquaintances that I would need to be friends with the moms of my kids’ mothers, it would be easy for the kids, and for me.
They said ” You would get new friends because of your kids “. To be honest, this very thought irked me. Firstly, why would I suddenly need new friends? Secondly, why them?
I still kept calm, because who knows, I might have to submit to this notion.
A month back, my twins got admitted to a renowned primary school. I am the one who commutes them to their school. Everyday I meet the moms of their friends. I hear them cribbing about unnecessary things, and gossip. Though I don’t judge them, I choose to play deaf around them.
A mother even made the school for all the moms. They discuss school studies and teacher’s gossip there ( I have muted the group).
I made umpteen attempts to be in the same page with other moms, but my energies stalled.
I questioned myself ” Would my kids be friends with my friends’ children? No, they won’t. ” Rather, why would they?
Each one us have the choice to choose our friends, where our vibes match, our thoughts match, there is no false effort. I am in my thirties, to me, making new friends intentionally, without any connect is a task ( that I don’t wanna do ????) .
Recently, this mom’s group planned a kitty, so that we enjoy socialising with each other. I did give it a second thought, but I knew my answer well. I said No!
Thus, it isn’t that I am not able to make friends with my kids’ friends’ moms, I actually don’t want to do that.
