#Music for the Soul

Author: Swati Tamhankar Mohandas

‘Music is to the soul what words are to the mind’ is a popular saying which I am certain that most of you would agree with. Music is one of the greatest inventions of mankind. It has the power to bring people together in different ways on special occasions. We don’t even need words to understand what music is saying. It is fair to say that music is the universal language of humanity. It always has a deep and meaningful connection with the brain. It is scientifically proven that music enhances brain functioning. Music can do wonders for our mood too. It is a vital part of our life as it helps us in expressing our feelings as well as emotions.

Music has the power that will make you calm down and in the moment of joy, it will make you cheerful. It gives you relief and allows you to reduce stress. It not only develops the mind but also boosts our self-confidence.

Music is an art that requires creative skills and great imagination power similar to other forms of art. It plays an important role in our life than just being a source of entertainment. Research shows that music is a great therapy due to its healing power for problems like depression, dementia, anxiety and many more. Even children with learning disabilities respond well to music sets. It also develops their coordination skills when they perform movements while listening to the music. It is also widely used in meditation workshops to relax the mind and to make people aware of their emotions. Music has an impact on everyone’s life in different ways in different phases of life. It not only gives us entertainment but also relaxes us when we feel exhausted.

Music can convey all sorts of emotions such as joy and happiness or sadness and despair through the rhythms, harmonies and lyrics. The fact that music can tell a story, create images or a personal connection through song is amazing. To sum it up, my point of view is that, Music is a language of emotion; it represents various feelings and barge into the soul without any limitations. It also can transport us back in time just like a time machine. Music is very beneficial for all of us and should be included in everyone’s daily life.
