My monsoon Diary

Author: Swati Mohandas

Sitting by the window,
Savouring the view
Sipping on hot coffee, our morning ritual,
Watching the rain drops drizzling down
Listening to the birds sing their song,
Could embrace you all morning long
The aroma of the muddy puddle,
Such days are perfect to cuddle
Nature's mighty symphony,
Takes me on an emotional journey
Wish time could stand still for us to
Enjoy these moments of pleasure.

Each season comes with it’s own distinctive disposition and set of quirks. Yet, it is the monsoon that we fantasize the most.

The smell of earth after the first fall of rain has always been romantic.

The best and the strongest memories are those that belong to the foggy realms of childhood and are exciting. The whiff of a fried kanda-bhaji (hot pakoras) from a mother’s kitchen on a rain-kissed Sunday evening with a cup of hot adrak-waali chai (ginger-infused tea)

Walking barefoot on the freshly rained-upon soft velvety lawn at home is a cherished experience. It is naturally an intense love affair we have with the rainy season. We love it, despite water-logging of our streets, partial flooding of our homes, the unwelcome presence of the leeches, the soaked to the bone setbacks as we struggle with umbrellas turning turtle upon us.

Monsoon inspires us no less; from penning of poems to creative writing, from painting to innovative thinking. It seems to rain ideas and inspiration and stirs something soulful within us.

But the charm of monsoon has everything to do with the place where you are. Imagine the traffic-jamming, drain-clogging and gutter-flowing rains of Mumbai and you will instantly know what I mean. The way it began to pour suddenly, in the same way, the rain disappeared in the misty sky leaving behind the charm and sensuality.

I would like to sum it up by :

Clouds gather and covers the sun
I look above the rain tickles;
drizzles on my face and lips
Each raindrop as pleasant as
a gentle kiss.
