Piyush Gupta’s Tarla starring Huma Qureshi is a biographical movie on the renowned chef and entrepreneur, Tarla Dalal. The movie is a tribute and celebration of Tarla, her courage and her way of empowering women.
Piyush Gupta badly fails in his directorial debut of this biopic. In layman’s language, Tarla’s inspirational life story had so much crispness and material to make the plot a great success, but the movie misses to grab the attention by its narration.
Flat direction and flat narration makes the uncommon story of Tarla, uninteresting! Though actress Huma Qureshi tries to get the hold of Tarla’s character, in many instances she seems to overdo it as if mimicking the act.
The story revolves around Tarla and her journey from being a random homemaker to India’s most famous women chef. The movie was expected to have food throughout, but the showstopper of the movie – ‘The Food’ was literally missing from the movie.
Feminism and womenhood is discussed throughout the movie, except the food-gasm missing, which makes the movie less interesting.
In fact, to me, many scenes and turns of the story replicated the old-cute movie #TumhariSulu. I believe there could have been much more power, food, gripping tale to the amazing ‘Tarla Dalal’s’ biopic.
Watch it and let me know in the comments if you feel the same. A one time watch #Tarla on #ZEE5
