Mother Nature has umpteen charms and wonders. Which of them is the best, I always ponder. Are the glorious sun, crescent moon, and twinkling stars without a tally in the sky above wondrous, or are the abundant flora and fauna, vast oceans with their beautiful fishes, swaying palms on sun-kissed beaches, high mountains, and valleys more charming? A mysterious hidden charm also lies in the changing seasons, the sun setting and rising again for a definite reason.
I took a small break from my work as my mind had stopped answering my never-ending questions and stepped barefoot into the garden to feel the soft, green, velvety grass. My hands reached out to caress the smooth petals of the fragrant flowers, and I inhaled and exhaled the fresh air. Warm sunshine made my eyes blink, and my lips parted in a smile. Taking a handful of the earth, I held it close to my bosom. My nose took a whiff of the rich, earthy smell, and my ears perked at the sound of twittering, chirping birds. Surprisingly, all my sensory activities were working in harmony. My heart beat joyfully, now stress-free, comforted, and soothed by Mother Nature. Undoubtedly, more than charms, I believe these are the miracles of Creation.
A gentle zephyr brushed me. A question arose in my mind again. I wondered what the wind whispers to the leaves on every tree as it gently rustles them. What does it murmur to the flowers that, readily on its caress, agree to sway and dance? I could feel the breeze gently ruffling my hair, yet not seeing it anywhere.
Seeing a majestic, canopied tree, I sat under its mighty shade. Fallen leaves lay scattered on the ground. I wondered if the life of a leaf was similar to human life and imagined the leaves whispering their story to me. The leaves whispered that we subtly depict the human life cycle. Like humans, we live, grow, and die too. Leaves are of different shapes and hues. We change colour according to the seasons, which gives human beings some cues.
Rustled by the breeze, the leaves murmured that, like children, we are fresh, new, and green in Spring. Merrily and carefree, we sway in the gentle breeze with dew drops nestled in our every crease. Like youth in late summer, we change color, sometimes to a blushing red. Nature slowly prepares us for the changing season ahead. The vivid colors nature paints us with are so appealing that they behold eyes with amazement and awe. And, as Nature prepares for its final call, we await the autumn of our lives. When the leaves are rich yellow, as the golden hue of life’s years, dried and withered, they wait for demise.
The wind blew and scattered the leaves far and wide; the leaves’ whispers echoed in my mind and made me think. Indeed, Nature is our Mother because, like a mother, she teaches and prepares us to face life and accept its different phases bravely and boldly.
