Isolation and Mental Health

Author: Shweta Malhotra

Life has many twists and turns. There are good times when we experience joy, create good memories and are surrounded by all our near and dear ones. And then there are some days when we have to sail through those hurricanes all alone.

Since 2020, the onset of COVID as a pandemic all across the nations, people have gone through many ordeals. There were lessons learnt, memories made, some people some relations failed and some discovered a new strength.

Physical health has become pivotal for all. Besides that mental and emotional quotient has already created its own importance. Dealing with the home isolation during COVID is not an easy task to come through. Not meeting anyone, not talking to anyone, taking care of your own self and keeping your spirits high at the same time. The fear of losing out things or as if the free time is killing you are some thoughts that keep hovering around in the minds of many.

There are few tips to pass time for those who are in home isolation.

a) Feed your mind with positive thoughts. Sometimes not easy though but listening to motivational recitals or short clips do help.

b) Keep the thought of ‘what will happen next’ or ‘what if I die’ at bay. Overthinking will increase your heart beat thereby increasing your chances of making those negative thoughts come true to life.

c) Meditate for some time. It will surely calm your mind and help you have a good sleep.

d) Connect with friends. They are the ones who will keep you lively. Some people during isolation stop talking to anyone around and slip into depression. To keep your spirits high, connect.

e) Take a walk in the room. Open the windows and let fresh air and positivity walk in your room along with you.

f) Read a good book or watch some series. Though Continuous watching is not possible but when ever in between you get some time, do watch TV, listen to good music or read. They all are therapeutic.

g) See old pics and smile and keep reassuring yourself that these days will be back soon.

h) Drink plenty of water not just for physical but for mental health as well.

Mental Fitness should never be ignored. The health of a person primarily depends upon his capacity to deal with it mentally too.

So keep a smile on your face and move on. Remember, This too shall pass.
