” Tini finish your home work, only 10 minutes left”- a common dialogue I used to hear from Ma in my childhood. Now ” left” for what, none other than my favorite ” Alif Laila” or ” Chitrahaar. Yes we were 90s kids. Television was good not very uncommon but the color one was ” undoubtedly owner’s pride, neighbor’s envy.”( taken from age old ONIDA ad).
My grandmom used to watch Ramayana and Mahabharat, the then popular TV soaps.
I still vividly remember some ads which rocled 90s teens. Our childhood was untouched by digital media except TV, which was then called an idiot box. But it glued all family members together. The concept of nuclear family was not very popular then. So family was large, all members sat for programmes together. My favorite time was election result day when all programmes were halted and popular movies were aired with election updates( where I had no interest). Set top box was not available then, we got our cable connection after my grade 12, I just imagine me telling my teenage daughter, ” You cannot get mobile, laptop until you get into college.” But this was possible in those days.
And how can my blog be complete without mentioning about nail biting India Pakistan cricket matches when the entire locality took a deserted look.
Our childhood memories, emotions are so much mixed with so called ” Idiot box”, we would be incomplete without this.Yes, television, I owe to you for my sweet memories of childhood.
