Monsoon recipe: Bajra Wada

Bajra Vada, Vada

Author : Avni Rahul Katakkar

Monsooooonnnn!!!!

The season of rains not just blooms romanticism, but foodism too.

Not just a season but, a celebration… a celebration for all the foodies.
That sip of hot ginger tea and some hot and crisp snacks make a person the perfect pair.

Here is one such scrumptious and healthy recipe for you to try this monsoon.

The Bajra Wadas – This recipe is a long lost recipe, a traditional snack from the state of Gujarat, which was earlier made during the winters because bajra or millet provides heat to the body and is a source of strength too.

Ingredients-

2 cups bajra flour/millet flour
1 cup wheat flour
1.5 cups dahi/curd
2 tbsp chilli-ginger-garlic paste
2 tbsps grated jaggery
2 tsp sesame seeds / white til
Red Chilli powder
Salt
Turmeric
Coriander/dhania powder
Oil
Hing/ Asafoetida

I have also added half a cup of grated bottle gourd and half cup of grated carrot

ps – You can add veggies of your choice to make the wadas healthier and tastier.

Recipe-

  • Take the bajra flour in a big bowl, to it add the wheat flour.
  • Add the chilli-ginger-garlic paste, curd, jaggery, chilli powder, salt, sesame seeds, coriander powder, turmeric and hing to it.
  • Give it a rough mix and add the grated/ crushed veggies, add water slowly and knead into a dough. Add water little by little because the veggies would leave their water too.
  • Make small balls of the bajra wada dough, roll them flat on your palm.
  • Deep fry the wadas till they are golden and crisp.
  • Enjoy them with your high-tea, ketchup or green chutney.

Do try this easy and healthy recipe, when it rains and let me know in the comments, how did you like it.
