Winter Delights: Hot Dishes to Keep You Warm

Delicious East European solyanka soup served with bread, perfect for a cozy meal.

They say, “Winter has come, and so we can enjoy a lot of hot dishes to keep us warm.” The women of the house start looking for new dishes to prepare, keeping the family members’ hearts happy and healthy.


Recipe 1: Tomato Soup

  • Ingredients:
    • 1 kilo tomatoes
    • Salt, to taste
    • Crushed pepper
    • Cream
  • Method:
    1. Wash and boil the tomatoes after cutting them in half.
    2. Cool the tomatoes, then grind them in a mixing jar and strain them through a sieve.
    3. Keep it on a boil, add salt, pepper, and boil for ten minutes.
    4. Add fresh cream or a bit of corn flour to make it thick, like a restaurant-style soup.
    5. You can make fried bread cubes and add them to the soup.
    6. Add soy sauce and chili sauce if desired.

Tasty homemade hot tomato soup is ready to be served to your family. Enjoy their smiles and get appreciated. Don’t forget to enjoy it too!


Recipe 2: Aloo Parathas

  • Ingredients:
    • 4 potatoes
    • 2 onions
    • 3 green chilies
    • Ginger (optional)
    • Onions (optional)
    • Whole wheat atta (flour)
    • Salt and oil (for dough and frying)
  • Method:
    1. Boil the potatoes, cool them, and peel them.
    2. Mash the potatoes and add salt, jeera powder, green chilies, and ginger. (Add chopped onions if desired.)
    3. Mix well and set aside.
    4. Prepare a soft dough using whole wheat flour, salt, and oil.
    5. Take a lemon-sized ball of dough, roll it out, and fill it with the potato stuffing. Seal it well.
    6. Roll it slightly and cook on a hot tawa with ghee or oil until both sides are golden brown.

Serve hot with pickle or raita.


Other Delicious Dishes:

  • Palak and Vegetable Soups: Enjoy them during the winter months to stay warm and nourished.
  • Onion Pakodas: Make a batter with besan, salt, hing, red chilies, and ajwain. Add water slowly to make a semi-solid consistency. Mix thinly sliced onions into the batter, then fry them until crispy. Serve hot with chutney or sauce.
  • Pav Bhaji: Wash and chop vegetables like beans, carrots, peas, potatoes, cauliflower, and capsicum. Boil the vegetables, sauté onions, and add turmeric powder. Cook ground tomatoes with pav bhaji masala and mashed vegetables. Add salt and mix well. Toast pav on a tawa with butter and serve with bhaji, sliced onions, and lemon.
